Who it is for
Protection is a narrow program. It is for stable, socially confident dogs and handlers who understand sport or professional context, who will train consistently, and who will not treat a bite as a personality accessory. It is not for a fearful pet, a reactive walker, or a household that wants a shortcut to feeling safer on a dark block. A scared dog with a trained bite is a public problem. What happens
The first step is an assessment of nerves, recovery, social behavior, and handler culture. We look for a dog who can think, not a dog who only explodes. If we continue, work happens in a controlled field with experienced helpers, clear rules, and an off-switch that is trained as carefully as the on-switch. Ethical protection is obedience plus a specific sport or professional skill. It is not chaos with a harness. We discuss legal reality. Owning a trained protection dog in a dense region is a responsibility that outlives the fun of a weekend seminar. Insurance, storage of equipment, public perception, and the dog’s welfare all belong in the conversation before anyone puts on a sleeve. We will walk away from handlers who talk about “teaching a lesson” to delivery drivers or neighbors. Balanced, in this company, still does not mean pain as a default. Protection work has its own traditions. We stay inside methods we can defend, and we keep force-free foundations for everyday life. The dog who works a scenario on Saturday still has to live in a Wayne kitchen on Sunday.
