Who it is for
CGC prep is for families who want a clear manners benchmark and a dog who can handle a polite public greeting. Kevin in Jenkintown wanted a farmers-market companion and passed on the first try after practical, kind prep. You do not have to take the AKC test. Many households just want the skills. If you do want the title, we will train to the test without turning your dog into a statue. Dogs who are still wildly reactive need that work first. CGC is a manners exam, not a rehabilitation protocol. We will tell you if you are shopping in the wrong aisle.
What happens
The CGC items are a useful syllabus: accepting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting, walking on a loose leash, walking through a crowd, sit and down on cue, staying in place, coming when called, a supervised separation, and polite behavior around another dog. We teach those in your house and then in the kinds of public spaces you actually use in Greater Philadelphia. Maya Alvarez enjoys this program because it is concrete. You will know what “good enough” looks like. We use food in training and we fade it toward the real test rules so you are not surprised on evaluation day. We also teach you how to advocate for your dog when a stranger reaches in too fast. Passing is not worth a flooded dog. If you want us to coordinate an evaluator, we can talk through local options. If you only want the life skills, we stop when your market walk looks like the walk you imagined.
Timeline
Dogs with a manners base often need four to eight lessons plus public outings. Green dogs need obedience first. Call (267) 357-8109 for a free evaluation. CGC near you should feel like a project with a finish line, not an endless class.
How we run a mock test
Near the end of prep we stage a friendly stranger, a short crowd walk, and a supervised sit-stay in a park or a quiet lot in your area. You will see which item is still sticky. That is kinder than finding out on the clipboard day. If the dog is not ready, we wait. A failed test is not a moral event. It is information. Call (267) 357-8109 if you want CGC skills for the farmers market, for therapy later, or just for a house that can host dinner. We will start with a free evaluation and tell you the shortest honest path.
