Behavior

Who it is for

Who it is for

Behavior work is for households dealing with barking that has a job, jumping that has been rehearsed for months, resource guarding, fear, or the mix that shows up after a move, a new baby, or a second dog. It is also for people who have already tried a weekend video course and still cannot have friends in the living room. You are a fit if you want an honest read. You are not a fit if you need someone to promise that aggression is cured. Pavlov's Pooch Dog Training and Beyond will not write that sentence. Maya Alvarez, CPDT-KA, leads the more serious cases and will tell you when a veterinarian or a veterinary behaviorist should go first.

What happens

The free evaluation is mostly history and observation. We ask what happens immediately before the behavior, what the dog gets out of it, and whether pain or medical change is in the picture. We do not diagnose. We do pause training when a limp, a sudden snap, or a house-training collapse looks medical. Then we write management that lowers rehearsal. Baby gates, leashes in the house, food locations, and a walk route that does not include the daily fight are not signs you failed. They are how you stop paying the unwanted behavior. Teaching comes next: a replacement that pays better than the old habit, plus new emotional pairings when fear is in the mix. Sessions are in your home and in your area because context is the behavior. A dog who is fine at a park and explosive in a rowhouse hallway needs hallway work. We film criteria so every adult in the house is running the same plan. Kids old enough to help get a role that is safe. Kids who are not get protection, not a job as assistant trainer.

Timeline

Simple jumping and barking plans can shift in a few weeks. Guarding and fear are slower. Many families book the Progress package and then reassess. If the dog is a bite risk, we talk safety tools and whether the home can meet the dog’s needs. That conversation is part of ethical work in Greater Philadelphia, not a sideline. Call (267) 357-8109. The free evaluation is how we decide whether we are the right team near you.

How we talk about hard behavior

You will hear us use ordinary words: safety, rehearsal, reinforcement, distance, rest. You will not hear us blame your dog’s breed as destiny, and you will not hear us tell you to stare a dog down. If a case needs a muzzle for safety, we teach a kind pairing so the muzzle is equipment, not a punishment. If a case needs a different living arrangement, we will say that with care and without drama. Neighbors, landlords, and new babies add pressure. We plan for the house you have in Greater Philadelphia, including shared walls. Call (267) 357-8109. The free evaluation is how we decide the next two weeks, not the next slogan.
